My grandfather started me playing golf when I was only five years old. We played together each
summer, and I don’t remember ever not playing. It’s been about spending time with family, doing
something I enjoy, and learning to love the sport. It’s been part of who I am for as long as I can
remember. I loved it before the idea of playing in college was a reality.
I have played competitive golf for three seasons in high school. Since I began high school play, my
scores have improved at every step. My commitment to constant improvement has already paid
dividends through weight training and a personal coach since the end of my Junior season. Over my
three seasons of competing and at the varsity level since my sophomore year, I have advanced to
sectionals with my team as a sophomore and individually as a junior. I’ve been honored with awards
every year of competition—Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Most Improved as a sophomore and Co-
MVP as a Junior.
Every swing is a fresh start. I take a very steady approach to the game, never too high and never too
low. My iron game is my strength right now but am intensively working and improving on all facets of
the game. I play a steady game with confidence. Not scared of any shot but still playing conservatively.
While I haven’t maxed out my distance performance, I think accuracy and consistency are my strengths.
I enjoy being coached. Having a dedicated coach during the off season has improved my game, and I
look forward to our time together. I look forward to being exposed to more coaching, different courses
and everything that being part of a collegiate team has to offer.
I have taken a leadership role on and off of the course. I strive to help my teammates get better as well as push them with competition. Off the course I am in many leadership organizations like FFA and 4-H always trying to better myself and the people around me.
I am dedicated on and off the golf course. I strive to excel in the classroom, evidenced by my GPA.
Throughout my high school career, I have taken honors level courses that have challenged me and
prepared me for college. Next year, I will begin taking dual credit classes to get a head start at my
college courses.
I was raised on a farm and enjoy the work associated with that. In addition to golf and training, I also
show livestock. I’ve won at local and state levels, including many county, regional and state shows. This
has built my work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to manage my emotions when the stakes are
high.
While my future career path isn’t completely set, I can see myself pursuing something in the medical or agricultural fields. I’m exploring chiropractic care, physical therapy, and athletic training. With all of my training and lessons I have developed an interest with the body and how to use it to the fullest of its abilities. With an agricultural background I am also looking into something like agricultural engineering.
