My name is Dylan Tyner and I am an incoming Senior at Wamego High School class of 2022.
My number one collegiate goal is to obtain a college degree. This is extremely important to myself and my family. I have of course dreamed of playing golf at the collegiate level for as long as I can remember. My father loves to tell people that I have had a golf club in my hand since the day I was born.
Golf in my family is a family tradition to say the least. My grandfather (Tim Tyner) had my father (Adam Tyner) playing as soon as he could walk. He was and still is a very accomplished golfer. Played varsity 1 man all through high school and went on and played at the collegiate level. My grandfather lives and breathes golf as my father and I do. He still plays golf competitively all over the Midwest. He has been on the board of directors for Kansas Golf Association/Central Golf Links for close to 10 years now. He is also a certified rules official for the USGA. So as you can see, this dream is a family dream and it continues to fuel my desire to play and practice daily. I would love the opportunity to be apart of a collegiate program that will push me to become a better golfer and a better person.
I love golf so much I also work on a golf course. I have been employed by Wamego Country Club since I was 13 yrs old. I started off as a cart boy and now I'm currently on the greens crew. I go into work everyday at 6:30am and work tell 2pm. I feel that this job has allowed me to learn more about golf by increasing my knowledge of the course it self. In my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends, hunt, snow ski, wake board, fishing and traveling. I have played football and baseball since my entire life. But recently I decided it was time to give those activities up to focus directly on golf and purse my dreams.
I have been a member of our high school varsity golf team since I was a freshman and played in every varsity event on the schedule. I qualified for the 2019 Kansas 4A State Championships as a freshman and placed 26th overall and low freshman honor for the tournament. No golf season my sophomore year. Junior year I qualified for the 2021 Kansas 4A State Championships and placed 4th overall. I had 9 golf tournaments during the 2021 golf season and came away with four 2nds, two 3rds, one forth, one 8th and one 11th. Of that a 4th at State Championships, 2nd at Regionals and 3rd at League Championships.
Putting in the work has never been an issue. I play and practice daily and very often multiple times a day. I am very blessed to have parents that have always been willing to sacrifice their time and money to give me every opportunity available to me. I am 100% committed to golf and my education and would love to be able to show them that their sacrifices have paid off.
I believe that my honesty, hard work, friendship and passion have allowed me to become a leader and earn 1 man on our team. I am willing to go the extra mile in the class room as well as on the course.
Thank you for your time,
Dylan Tyner
