My name is Matthew Kinsey and I am a junior at Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, Maryland. I have been involved with sports my entire childhood. I’ve played baseball, basketball, and golf competitively. In Baseball, I was on a Little League team that won four state championships and competed in the 2014 Intermediate World Series in Livermore, California and finished as The United States finalist. When I entered High School, I realized that I had a true passion for the game of golf and decided to take the game to the next level. I made the Varsity team in my freshman year and qualified for the Maryland State Tournament. In my sophomore season, I medaled in 2 matches, gained 3 strokes on my scoring average, and earned 1st team All- Conference honors. This past high school season as a junior I finished in second place in the conference with a 37.9 nine hole scoring average (improved 2.5 strokes on my scoring average), I medaled in 5 matches, qualified for the state tournament and finished 16th in the state with (77-79-156). During my tournament season I finished overall in the Mid Atlantic region in the MAPGA, I competed in 2 AJGA events where I finished T-18th and 59th. Currently, I have a 1.6 Handicap and plan on working hard this upcoming tournament season to become a scratch golfer. I will be competing in AJGA, MAPGA, MSGA, HJGT, DSGA, and USGA events.
Academically, I am a strong student with a 4.5 GPA and take currently 2 AP courses and plan on taking 1 more AP course my senior year. I would like to attend college and major in Business Management and minor in Sports Management because all my life I have dreamed of making an impact on sports and in particular the game of golf. My goal is to play golf at the collegiate level and pursue my career. I am open to attending any college that fits my academic and athletic goals, but my preference is to attend a college in the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States.
Socially, I enjoy serving my community, I am a youth basketball coach at my local recreation department, and I serve as an Alter Server at my church. My faith and family come first in my life. Personally, I believe I’m a team player with a strong work ethic and I persevere competitively always with a will to be the best person that I can be. In closing, I feel I would be a tremendous impact to any collegiate program that is willing to put their faith in me.
