Hello My name is Joshua Colangelo, I'm from Severna Park, Maryland. I'm going into my senior year at Chesapeake High School located in Pasadena Maryland. I play golf and tennis for the Varsity Highschool team. When I was younger I played lots of sports Basketball, Lacrosse, soccer, Baseball, and football. I never had enough interest in pursuing my goals for those sports. So my Dad wanted me to try golf and go to the range with him and it felt natural. Like I could swing the club consistently and hit the ball every time. That day changed how I looked at Golf and helped influence me become a better golfer. Baseball helped me hit the ball better and have a more consistent swing. Soccer had helped with my endurance in playing well throughout the course or the range and Basketball, Lacrosse, and Football taught me to stay humble.
I'll never forget when I talked to my golf coach for the first time and said I will be trying out. He asked me what do you shoot for nine holes and I said around 60 because that's what I was shooting for nine holes before I tried out. Then when tryouts started we had a couple of practices and we had a chance to play nine holes the last tryout day to see who had potential. I was in a group with all seniors and I shot a 44 for nine holes and that's the best I've shot up to that point and I was starting as a freshman. On the starting line up I was a number 5 or a number 6 every match and ended up having an average of 48 for nine holes which was much better than I started off before the season. I ended up going to counties and then making it to districts and shot a 94. At the end of the year I ended up getting the Most Improved award as a freshman in Highschool.
From that season onwards my scores have been getting a lot better. I ended up getting new clubs my sophomore year and played very well with my clubs. At the end of the year my 9 hole average was about a 45. Because of the virus spreading we had a really short season and didn't play much. I still had to make sure that I was going to be really good for the upcoming season so I started practicing around 3-4 times a week and got to the point where I needed the motivation. My Dad was always a good golfer, so here and there I would challenge him to a stroke play 9 hole or 18 hole match and it would always become close. My Dad used to be a scratch golfer when he was in college. He walked on to the University of Texas team and had practices with them. Was never on the team because he didn't have enough time due to his major, Aerospace Engineering but he still practiced with them every so often.
My Dad is my motivation to keep pushing myself to be the best that I can. He has always been a really competitive person and has always challenged me to try my hardest. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere in golf if it wasn't for him but I'm so proud that I have that kind of father. That keeps pushing when your tired, that keeps you interested in the game. I want to play my best this last year of Highschool. So I'm going to need to practice everyday until I can see a lot of improvement in my game. I want to go to play college golf because I know I have the talent for it the physical aspects and the mental game. I want to play in college because I will meet a lot of very nice people make new friends and it would become a very cool thing to look back to when I become a Dad.
