Hello coach, my name is Garrett Krisko. I am a senior at Chenango Forks High School in Binghamton, NY. Thank you for taking the time to view and read my profile.
I have had a golf club in my hands since I could walk; playing my first nine holes on my fourth birthday. When I was younger, while most kids my age watched cartoons, I watched golf. When I graduated pre-school, I was voted most likely to beat Tiger Woods. My first competitive experience was at age five, playing in a U.S. Kids Golf tournament in Albany, New York. My mother says that I was born to play golf, and that the game chose me. I agree!
I am always looking to improve my game, and will work harder than anyone to improve it. An important part of this is listening to my coach and applying to my game what he has to teach me. In addition, over the winter of 2012 to 2013, I committed myself to working on my golf game year-round. I practiced at an indoor golf facility, working on my full swing with their simulator, and chipping and putting on the facility's indoor greens. This past winter, I started working with a physical therapist, focusing on strength and conditioning exercises.
My hard work was worthwhile. I just completed the best season of my career; finishing three shots lower than the previous season! I had 6 scores in the 30s, and 11 scores under 41. With an average of +3.92 to par, I qualified as an individual for the 2013 STAC Golf Championships held at En-Joie Golf Club. I was the medalist for my team, and finished 23rd out of 67 participants. I also qualified for the 2014 NYS Section IV State Qualifying Tournament, to be held in May, at Robert Trent Jones in Cornell, NY. I also earned STAC All East-Division Honors. I was also voted Team Captain for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
My game extends beyond my high school team. I play every summer on the local TCGA Junior Tour, where I have 7 top ten finishes and two second place finishes. With my family, I have played golf in multiple Southern states, experiencing difficult courses. I am also the current Junior Club Champion at Afton Golf Club, Afton NY, turning in a two-day total of 165. In 2014, I look forward to competing on the TCGA and CNY PGA Junior tour.
Academic success is very important to me, and I challenge myself in the classroom as well. I have consistently been on my school's honor roll while taking Honors classes. Through three years of high school, I have achieved a GPA of 3.2. My sophomore year, I took AP World History. My junior year, I took College American History and College English. This year, I was accepted into an advanced work study program, where I will be taking my History and English classes, along with a Public Policy class through Syracuse University while working with law and government officials throughout my community. My extracurricular activities include Mock Trial, a reporter for the school newspaper, Varsity tennis, and Varsity CYO basketball.
It is important to me to give back to my community. I participate in CHOW walks, Christmas gift basket programs, and umpire youth sporting events. I have been an altar server at my church since second grade, teach first grade religious education, and recently began to serve as a lector.
My college dream is to study American History and Psychology, and move on to Law School. I feel that my high school teachers and golf coach are helping me to gain the skills needed to be successful in the classroom and on the golf course at the collegiate level. Even though I live in the North, I have family that lives in the South, and I have traveled around Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Florida with them. I love it. I have had the opportunity to see a number of historical places. Studying American History and understanding the human mind will help me reach my ultimate goal of being a successful criminal prosecutor.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing about your college and what your golf program has to offer. I hope to hear from you soon!
