My name is Bailey Fredette and I am in the class of 2020. I've been playing for my high school team for 4 years. I tried a number of different sports growing up and never found the right fit, until my parents bought me my first set of clubs. Both of my parents play golf so it was easy to find places in the area to play. Once I started playing, I took several lessons from someone at a small, local course. He instilled in me the importance of "staying at it" and not being disappointed with a hole. As I got older, I started going to the Nike Golf Camp at Williams College in Williamstown Massachusetts. Dr. Bob Winters helped me with my "mental game". His lessons and lectures taught me to stay calm, play my own game and to not get hung up on one bad shot. The other instructors were helpful in suggesting tips on how to change my grip or my swing. Being immersed in golf for a 1- or 2-week sleep away camp allowed me to build on each lesson since I was back on the course that evening or the next day! I am dedicated to being the best golfer I can be.
For several years now, I've known generally what I want to study in college. I am very interested in Homeland Security or Law Enforcement. I have done some reading on what it takes to be part of the FBI. Many people my age are still completely unsure what they want, but I know that the field of protecting our country is the right field for me. I've also been a juror on our town's youth court. Youth court is an alternative to criminal or family court for young offenders in our community. We listen to real cases of student's who have committed low-level offense or crime in our town. We play the role of prosecutor, defense attorney, judge, clerk and foreperson with the cases overseen by an attorney. With the guidance of the attorney, we issue an appropriate and constructive sentence that often includes community service hours, participation in educational classes, paying restitution or serving as a youth juror for other cases.
I dedicate time to my studies but also dedicate time for other activities. Activities other than golf include riding my bike, helping my grandmother with lawn work and helping my dad with light auto repairs. I am a great son and a younger brother to my sister.
