Hello!
I am an 18 year old senior in Old Forge, NY. I have played varsity golf since seventh grade, and have improved dramatically year to year. In school, I carry an unweighted 99 average (first in my class), I write a weekly political column in the town newspaper, and on the course, my handicap index is 3.1 and dropping. College golf has always been a goal of mine, and something that I will work extremely hard at to acheive. If you worry about my ability to score, please realize that I am very athletic, qualifying and competing for medals at the Varsity Nordic State Championships in eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade. My body has grown in the last 3 years, and the coming year is sure to be prolific on the course. I am a great student, and take instruction very well.
I have confidence I can thrive in the most academically selective colleges. I scored a 2190 on SATs, 33 on ACTs, and three SAT Subject Tests are pending. I have taken the hardest classes possible throughout high school, and have even gone outside the curriculum to take AP Statistics online. In addition to this, my weekly newspaper column has added more work to my ever busy schedule.
Since my golf season is in the spring, I plan on improving over the next season and advancing farther in competition than I have before. Qualifying for State Championships and winning individual titles in Sectionals and CSC Championships are my goals for the upcoming season, beginning in April. Old Forge is 60 to 100 miles from any tournaments whatsoever and, because of my family 's status as a working family, there are few opportunities for me right now to compete in those, let alone national level tournaments. I try my hardest to create these opportunities, and if given a spot on a college team I have no doubt that I will shine. I played last summer in a local junior league, however the tournaments were all over an hour drive from my house. I finished 2nd in points, with 2 wins.
Going to college is something I have worked hard to accomplish for as long as I can remember. I would be happy to consider a 4 year college anywhere in the country (Although I would prefer somewhere in the East). Becoming a teaching professional is one of my career dreams, however I plan on pursuing a degree in Political Science. I have looked at the PGA Professional Golf Management program in the South, but right now I am leaning toward attending college in the Northeast or in Washington DC area.
Something I have never lost in the years I have played golf is my love for the game. Even while going through a rough patch in my game, I am driven to ride my bicycle the mile and a half to my club every morning in the summer. I believe that this dedication seperates me from other golfers my age. Feel free to contact me anytime!
Thank You,
Colin Criss
