~~My name is Michael C. Rials and I live in Florence, South Carolina. I am 17 years old and a junior at Trinity Byrnes Collegiate School. My height is 6’5 and besides golf I also play basketball in the winter months. My basketball career is great for fitness and also gives me a few months break of competitive golf.
My passion for the game roughly started when I was at the age of 8 years old. I was a member at the Kirksville Country Club in Kirksville, Missouri. I was a member there for a total of 3 years and then moved to Marion, IL. This move was particularly to be able to play even more golf throughout the year. I spent 5 years in this state and really focused on improving my game at this location. My main focus was to improve my game 100 yards and in and really improve on my putting ability. My swing instructor during this time period was Steve Heckel. Mr. Heckel really worked on my ball striking and created me into a draw player. I currently live in Florence, SC. I am a member at the Country Club of South Carolina. I moved here the summer I turned 16. My current swing and short game instructor is Matt Cannon out of the NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville, North Carolina. Mr. Cannon works with me from tee to green and is very helpful with course management. As every lesson consists of a short game and driving range session and then an 18 hole round. I have noticed a significant improvement in all aspects of my game since I have started working with Matt.
My current clubs in my bag is a TaylorMade SLDR Driver that is 10.5 degrees of loft. I have a Titleist 913F 3 wood that is set on 15 degrees of loft. As well as a Titleist 913 hybrid that is set on 18 degrees of loft. I have Mizuno irons and wedges. My 4-7 irons are Mizuno MP 54’s, as my 8-PW is MP64’s. My wedges are at the lofts of 51, 56, and 61 degrees of loft. My putter is a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 at 35in. of length.
I have played in many different tournament series ranging from local tournaments like the Southern Illinois Golf Association and South Carolina Junior Golf Association and in High School matches. I have also played in bigger events such as the PGA Junior series, Hurricane Tour, and AJGA Events. My lowest recorded score is a 68 where I finished with a bogey free round. My lowest High School match has been an even par round.
My goals after high school are to play Collegiate D1 golf and play on a team that wins a National Championship. I would like to major in Finance and possible become a CEO of a hospital some day.
