I have always thoroughly enjoyed sports in general. Even in my preschool years I played soccer and basketball as well as a little golf with my dad. Once school started I was still pulled toward soccer and basketball, probably because it was constant movement. My parents say that I was always on the move and very athletic from the moment I could crawl then walk and finally run and I just haven't stopped. Even during those years in soccer and basketball I still had some exposure to golf because my family lives in a golf community and my dad loves to golf. In middle school I played club soccer and traveled quite a bit. It was enjoyable but around eighth grade I could see others were just a little more natural at it than me. I also began going to a few local golf tournaments where I was able to hold my own without much tutelage. Finally, in high school my parents said that I needed to focus on one sport if I wanted to be able to play at the collegiate level. So after a disappointing Freshman basketball season I threw myself into golf. It was amazing to find out that others already had multiple coaches and were competing in Junior PGA events. That is when I began being coached by Tim Cooke at the Sea Pines Golf Resort, where I now work. He was a great coach but I needed more coaching time so I switched to Mason Carmel, a PGA professional who began The Elite Junior Invitational golf tournament. Shortly after, I was also able to add Phil Shomo as a mental coach. During my junior year of high school at Hilton Head Christian Academy our varsity team won states in our division and I placed 6th individually. In between playing on the varsity golf team I was also able to play in many SCJGA, CGA, AJGA & HJGT events. The growth this year has been mostly in the mental side of the game. My anger and emotions are more contained and I am able to look to the next shot without being distracted by a previous shot that may have been less than stellar. I am now a senior at Heritage Academy in Hilton Head Island, SC. It is a school which focuses on the needs of athletes. Getting out of school early allows me to practice and focus more on golf. My varsity coach at Heritage is Dan Jackson, who also runs the G2 girls golf school in Bluffton, SC. He is now coaching me individually since Mason Carmel moved to Virginia. My focus at this time is tightening up my short game. Not all my scores reflect the player that I am now or could be but with the right coaching and atmosphere I believe I could be Great.
Academically, I have struggled due to ADD, reading comprehension and processing issues. In an environment that is structured with accountability and access to consistent tutoring I know I can do even better. I look forward to focusing on subjects that appeal to my specific personality and disposition.
