Regina Talavera '21 Recruiting Profile

I am an international student, a senior at Heritage Academy, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with a GPA of (pending), an honor roll student with a background in community service both in my native country Mexico, as in my current residence in South Carolina. I’m also a tennis athlete, interested in pursuing an academic or an athletic scholarship that will allow me to excel.

I am over achiever, self-motivated and hard worker player, with an athlete experience of 5 years. In my first two years of competitive tennis, I played several regionals, state and national tournaments in Mexico. At the same time, in the summer of 2017 and 2018 I traveled to the north and south of France to play different tournaments finishing with a ranking of 5/6.

 Joining Smith & Stearns Tennis Academy in the summer of 2018, has giving me a competitive edge, I’ve need it to participate in USTA tournaments, Mexican nationals and Junior ITFs. For me every tournament has been challenging as I push myself to succeed in every game. During the summer at the Mexican nationals of 2019, I was selected as one of the top four junior players to represent Mexico in Hiroshima, Japan for an Olympic preparation camp.

During all of my competitions, I have learned that to achieve my goals I’m required to be diligent and discipline and have learned to deal with stress and frustration while staying focus.

As part of my goal in life is to set up a Public Sport Facility for young children and teenagers. The facility will promote sports such as soccer, basketball and tennis. The purpose of this is to motivate children to play a sport for their heath, as well as to have a place to stay after school and to pursue a passion. Also, the Sport Facility will be a center to help teenagers to distract themselves from addictions and bad influences. Tennis helped me to develop my character and set up my goals. I want to encourage young children to do the same, so they can achieve whatever they want in life.
