Dear Coach,
My name is Alex Ruetten, and I am reaching out to express my interest in becoming part of your golf team in the Fall 2025. I am currently a Junior at Pecatonica High School located in Blanchardville, Wisconsin, where I have been competing for the combined Argyle-Pecatonica golf team in the Southwestern Wisconsin Athletic League (SWAL).
My passion for golf started when I was about four years old, when my grandmother, Liza Ruetten, former Women’s Golf Coach at UW-Oshkosh, began taking me to the course. Since then, I have been competing in the Wisconsin Junior PGA during the Summers, and I recently won Player of the Year honors on the Future Tour in 2022!
For the last two seasons, since I was a freshman, I have been the Number One golfer on our Varsity squad. As a result of my consistency on the course, I have earned First-team All-Conference honors both years. I value being a leader on the team, and a role model for the other players, and have led our team to back-to-back sectional appearances for the first time in the team’s history. I also individually qualified for the Wisconsin State Golf Tournament at Black Wolf Run in 2023, where I placed 23rd out of 52 competitors in Division Three. I definitely didn’t have my best two days on the course at State last year, so I am looking forward to getting redemption and leading our entire team to its first ever State appearance in the 2024 season!
I have been working diligently in the off-seasons, and for the last four years I’ve been taking private swing lessons with Mike Tabbert - Head Golf Instructor at Glen Erin Golf Club in Janesville and 2023 Youth Player Development award winner for the State of Wisconsin. I have realized how important nutrition, strength, flexibility, and decision-making are to my golf game, and take it very seriously. I believe the 2024 season will be my real “break-out” year, and my goals are to win the SWAL Conference Championship, qualify as a team for the State Tournament, and be more competitive in my division as an individual qualifier.
Academically, I’m no slouch either. I skipped 4th grade entirely, so I should only be a sophomore. Regardless, I am still ranked 3rd in my class, with a 3.85 GPA, and compete regionally as a Math-lete in the Six Rivers Conference. I’m also taking three college level courses in Math, Business, and Biology. Once in college, I plan to major in Finance or Business, and hope to translate that degree into a career in the golf field (in case I don’t make it as a pro golfer).
One last note of importance for your consideration. My step-Dad is a 100% disabled veteran, and due to his level of disability, I qualify for the federal Dependents Education Assistance program through the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Tuition Remission program for dependents. This means that my College education at any UW system school is already paid in full, and there is no need for your school to have to use a scholarship to bring me to your golf program. Pretty awesome!
Thank you Coach for your time and consideration. You can check out my NCSA recruiting profile HERE.
I look forward to hearing back from you soon!
Sincerely,
Alex Ruetten
