Personal Statement

My name is Gage Roberts, I am an Indigenous athlete and I just finished my minor hockey career after 5 seasons in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) at the AAA level.  This experience has matured me as a person and as a goalie.  In order to play I have billeted out of town in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta since I was 13 and playing bantam (U15) AAA.  My hometown, Fort McMurray, Alberta, only has AA teams so to continue to grow as a player I had to try out 4 hours away from home.  Over the years this has taught me to hold myself accountable to my school and sports goals.  I want to play hockey at the highest competitive level that I can for as long as I can so am looking to make a Junior A team in the short term with the goal of playing NCAA DIV I hockey in the coming years.

I am currently play goalie for the Nipawin Hawks in the Saskatchewan Jr Hockey League. Games can found on flosports and league information at www.sjhl.ca

From a goalie perspective the most common feedback I receive is that I am a skilled skater, have an above-average hockey IQ, and am calm in the net.  I also love big games and the pressure they bring where I am able to elevate to an even higher level of play.

I love being active and can be found playing a number of different sports.  I previously played rep-level baseball in the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association and most recently represented my school at zone and provincial golf championships.  But it doesn't need to be organized sports as I am happy to shoot the basketball around, mountain bike, or go to the gym.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or feedback.

Much appreciated,

Gage Roberts
