Hi, my name is Benjamin Turvey. I was born in New Westminster, BC, and moved to Kamloops, BC at a young age. I'm Indigineous/First Nations, the oldest in my family, as I have a brother who is two years younger than me. I am a graduate of Norkam Secondary School. Hockey is my life, as I've been playing since the age of 4, and playing goalie since I was 7.
I got into hockey from a young age mainly because of my hometown, Kamloops Blazers, and Hockey Night in Canada. I fell in love instantly and it became my passion. So far, on my journey through this amazing sport, I've made lots of lifetime friends, and played for some of the most supportive, knowledgeable, and helpful people.
I take pride in my academics. Last year in grade 11, I had an 86.5% average, and I look forward to improving on that this year in grade 12. I realize how much work must go into my grades and school work in order to attend competitive universities. I have a couple of ideas about what I'd like to do after high school, which include Business, Law, or Kinesiology. My favourite hobbies outside of hockey include golfing, tennis, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
I am a hard-working and dedicated player who strives to play at the top of my game every time I'm on the ice. In the last few years, I've really bought into the process, doing mental strength training sessions, representing my province playing for Indigenous Team BC in 2023 and 2024. I can read plays and see them develop before me, allowing myself to get a good read on shots and eyes on deflections/options. I pride myself in all aspects of my game. I've been told that I'm a coachable goalie and always looking for ways to get better.
Most recently I was awarded the solo league MVP award of OMAHA U18T1.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks,
Benjamin Turvey
