Personal Statement
Tyler K. Longnecker
The people who have influenced me the most in my life are my parents and all the coaches that have taught me how to play ice hockey. In January 2012, I was 8 years old, and I asked my parents if I could play ice hockey. They put me lessons. I instantly fell in love with the sport. Within 6 months, I was playing in house hockey and soon playing for a travel club. I have continued to play for the same club even when the team was not performing at its best. The coaches' level of expertise and the club's values and player development model are top notch.
When I’m not playing hockey, I enjoy backpacking and hiking. I am a Life Scout and working toward becoming an Eagle Scout. I also enjoy hunting and have learned many life lessons from the ethical harvesting of wild game. In my Junior year in High School, I challenged myself by taking two Advanced Placement classes.
I have had to overcome many challenges in my life. The lessons and values I have learned from the Scouting program and being involved in club ice hockey has given me what I need to deal with many of life's challenges. Hockey has made me grow and become very strong mentally and has taught me how to become a better man.
