When I was 2 ½ the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed directly over our home. Even though I was extremely young, that experience has guided my growth and development. Family and community support are essential to success. These building blocks have taught me that discipline, hard work and gratitude will get me anywhere I want to go. Being a Victor over a Victim (favorite quote) is my destiny in life.
I was a 6’ 3” 185 pound starting defenseman at 15 years old. I don’t really count points, but love to count plus/minus (currently +31). I am a play-maker and I enjoy knowing I can be the key to success for my team and teammates. I count on my teammates and they count on me to raise each other up every chance we get. Success depends on all of us pushing each other and rising to our potential.
I’m currently a sophomore at Colorado Connections Academy. My success in online school follows the same building blocks I’ve used in life and hockey. Discipline, hard work and communication have helped me keep a 3.92 GPA both years of high school. Managing my schedule while traveling and competing is key to my success. Connecting and communicating with my teachers has made my job easier.
Even though my schedule is packed most days, I feel it is extremely important to give back to the community. Hockey has been key to my personal growth, so I volunteer with Learn to Skate and Learn to Play hockey programs as an assistant coach. I also volunteer at Children’s Hospital during the holidays and work on activity packs for St. Jude in my spare time. Over the summer, I write a Million Thanks letters to our military and families.
I know that college is the next step, but not the final step. I want to be a key competitor while I continue to grow and develop. I know I will be successful because I have been lucky enough to have been given the building blocks to keep me centered in any situation. I want to be a Victor in the college arena as well as beyond.
“Every test in life makes us Bitter or Better;
Every problem comes to Make us or Break us;
The choice is ours whether we become
Victim or Victor”
