Personal Statement

By dedicating a serious portion of my life to athletics and many different sports, I know what it takes to win and how to achieve success. Prior to picking up hockey, I played competitive tennis at an international level which helped me develop the necessary winning mindset. Although I started playing hockey at the age of 13, my hard work and dedication towards the game allowed me to develop a sense for the game as well as the skills that are necessary to thrive in the sport. I believe that my lack of experience in the sport is an advantage for me as it pushes me to work harder and learn quicker than others. I understand that being a team player and filling a role are important aspects of being a hockey player and I have demonstrated that ability throughout each level I've played at. For example, I used the limited minutes I got in my first year of travel hockey as an opportunity to make sure every shift counted. As my minutes increased and my role became more prominent, my mindset never changed and I still made sure I was putting in maximum effort every shift.  Effort is something that I always make sure I bring. I understand there may be times where I am not as talented as others which allows my effort to shine through and allow me to play with higher talents. I strive to bring high effort levels to each facet of my life, such as in hockey or academics.

School is a place where I feel comfortable and a place I enjoy. So far, I've had a great high school experience and plan on centering my future on my academic abilities. At the collegiate level, I wish to attend a school that prides themselves on having high academics along with a competitive hockey team. This would allow me to display my talents in all facets of my life along with providing an enjoyable experience for myself.
