Personal Statement

Greetings!

What makes me so special that you should take another look?

There is only 2 things my life revolves around: hockey and fishing. I have been playing hockey since I was 4. I never ever miss a practice or a game. You can always find me  at open stick, open skate or shooting pucks in the yard. In the winter when the ponds freeze over me and my friends play a lot of pond hockey.

My coaches would agree that  I give 100% ALL OF THE TIME. I listen,  I can anticipate a play and where I need to be. I have received the  Eric Bergeron MacLean Youth Hockey Award in 2016 and again in 2020. This award is given to only one player in each division.

I know hockey isn't the only tool I need to succeed. My grades are very important. Especially if I want to pursue a career on the ocean as a Marine Engineer or another relative topic.

Ive been fishing basically sense I was born. By the time I was 12, I had won the Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby 3 times.  A fierce, month long fishing competition with over 4 thousand competitors of all ages.  Not familiar with it? Take a look https://www.mvderby.com/.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Mason Warburton

  • To Whom It May Concern: Mason Warburton has been playing youth hockey on teams that I have been coaching for the past 5 seasons. He just completed his 20-21 season as a 1st year u14 A level competitor. Mason has spent the past two seasons as a dedicated defenseman but is capable of playing all positions on the ice. Skating: Masons skating and edge work have gotten progressively better over the last two seasons. His edgework is solid and transitions from forward to backward are very good making him an effective defenseman at the Bantam A level. His physical growth has had a positive impact on his speed and agility. Matching speed with attacking forwards has been very good and he understands the concept of gap control and timing. Shooting and passing: I have stressed the importance of off-ice training as the best tool for improvement to all my players. It is evident that he has spent time shooting and stick handling on his own the past few seasons. His shot is strong, and his passing is accurate. Tenacity: Mason plays bigger than his size. He puts out max effort during practice where others cruise during skill sessions or on the back check. Mason has earned accolades from our coaching staff on many occasions. He can be depended upon for strong consistent work ethic during practice and in games. He does not shy away from contact and is aggressive in the corners and in front of the net. Attitude and coach-ability: Mason is a good listener and shows a good understanding of the game. He is attentive and absorbs teaching moments well on the ice at practice and on the bench during games. He is a great kid and a pleasure to coach. Hockey IQ: His game is maturing with the ever-increasing pace of the sport. He makes good decisions in his own defensive end and in the neutral zone. He has learned to see the ice and make good decisions under pressure. His offensive blue line play improved the past two seasons the most by making good use of lateral blue line movement to improve angles and make good shooting and passing decisions. He spent some time on the power play and penalty kill and has done very well when given the opportunity. Conclusion: I would recommend Mason to any coaching staff. As his physical size and cognitive ability grow, I anticipate that Mason will be an impact player at the high school level and potentially beyond. I wish him the best of luck with his hockey future and look forward to his success wherever he plays. Best Regards Adam Wansiewicz
