My name is Alessandro Fiermonte but most people call me Alex. My goal is to study engineering and play Division I hockey in college. I've recently started visiting prospective colleges and am looking forward to my junior year in high school.
I began skating at the age of 3 at the local rink, where I have been the co-captain of my varsity team since freshman year. This is the same rink I began playing hockey in at the age of 5 and I now spend much of my free time. During the year, I serve as a volunteer, helping out the city’s learn to play and learn to skate programs in an effort to grow hockey interest in my community. It makes me feel proud to teach other kids to skate in the same rink that I learned how to skate on. When I was little I remember being afraid to fall on the ice. At the time, the high school goalie showed me how to fall and I never forgot that. I now also work as a skate guard on the same rink, often showing little kids that it's okay to fall. I monitor and make sure everyone is doing the right thing and if anyone needs help I’m always there.
Although my first year as a mite, I played with the Bayonne Rangers, I ended up switching to the Devils Youth Hockey where I have been ever since. This organization has helped me grow and develop into the hockey player I am today. I’ve played AAA ever since my first year squirt and I am still currently playing at the tier 1 level as a center. However, my experience as a forward has allowed me to develop the skill set to play both wings and play the point on the power play. In 2022, my bantam minor team won the Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) for the second year in a row. Having scored the game winning goal in overtime, the league acknowledged me with the All American Forward Award.
During the offseason, I like to attend as many camps and practices as possible so I can continue to grow. In the spring I play for the Barnstormers, a team that plays out of Montclair State University. Each summer, I play for the TeamONE Hockey program located in Wilmington, Massachusetts. We have played in the Mini Chowder Cup, CCM summer invite and will be playing in the Mini Chowder Cup and Hockey Night In Boston this upcoming summer. During my varsity high hockey career, I have played a total of 28 games and currently have 65 points (G-44, A-21). I have been recognized as a sophomore stat leader for the 2023-2024. I have also been named NJIIHL McMullen Second Team Forward for the past two years.
I have played in the CCM Invite in Detroit, Michigan, the CCM World Invite in Chicago, Illinois, the CCM Invite in Dallas, Texas, and the CCM Invite in Rhode Island.
During a typical week, I’m usually busy with schoolwork, working out, and hockey practices. For fun, I like to go to the local roller rink and play with some of my high school teammates.
