Tomas Spero '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Tomas Spero, a Senior (June '21) at St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, NJ.  I am the starting goalie on the varsity ice hockey team and for my travel team, North Jersey Avalanche U18.  I am interested in attending a very challenging university with plans to study math and economics, as well as play ice hockey at the the highest level of competition available.

In the classroom, I enjoy math and science classes and have excelled at both.  I have been enrolled in the schools honors program and I am currently taking AP Economics, AP Statistics, AP Psychology and AP English - I have taken AP Calculus, AP Chemistry,  AP History and Honors Physics.  I currently have a 102.9 GPA based on a 100 scale.  I have achieved the school's Principal's List for the past 14 semesters (grades of 92+ in all classes) an accomplishment that only 2 seniors have achieved.  I took the SAT's (December 2019) and scored a 1460 with an 800 in Math and 660 Reading/Writing.  I also obtained AP test scores of 5 in Math and English.

On the ice, I train and compete hard - always striving to better my game.  I have played competitive travel hockey for the past 8 years, playing for several highly ranked teams at the U12 & U14 levels.  I was an Atlantic District goalie for two years at the U14 & U15 level.  I continue to play at a high level U18 program, but have focused on achieving high grades as well as good goalie stats.  I work with two goalie coaches that have improved my game over the years - both coaches are well known in the area and they played D1 and professional.

Off the ice, I really enjoy playing golf and tennis.  In my sophmore year I made the SJR varsity tennis team and played second doubles and achieved honors by being selected 1st team in our division.   On the golf course, I play to about a 5 handicap.  Last season, I tried out for the SJR varsity golf team, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, the golf season was cancelled. 

I also enjoyed investing in the stock market - I've been very interested in understanding the financial markets and stock trading.  

I look forward to the opportunity to play competitive hockey at a very competitive academic university.
