I would like to begin by saying thank you for taking the time to review my profile and to learn a little bit more about me. I began skating when I was 6 with learn to skate programs with my younger brother. I learned all to soon that hockey and skating was something that one had to work hard at to become proficient. As I started playing as a defenseman in house leagues my younger brother began travel hockey as a goalie. I soon wanted to take that path also. It started simple with goalie training bi-weekly and splitting time in the net as a goalie in house leagues. My father would not allow me to play in travel hockey until he felt that I would be a compliment to whatever team I played on and that I received ice time. As I started to play more and more goalie my father would always say that “10% of the time you play you will be great, 30% of the time you will be good, 30% of the time you will be average and 30% of the time your play will be bad. It’s the 30% that is average and 30% that is bad that will drive you to be great as goalies always have learning to do.” It was at this point that I was driven to start weekly semi-private lessons and a basic off ice program. It was in net as a goalie that I became most comfortable with the game of hockey
I do have a goal to play ice hockey at the collegiate level but I also believe that my academics are an important part of who I am. Besides my academics I tutor local children in middle school and volunteer at my mother and father’s office. They provide pediatric occupational and physical therapy. This experience has enabled me to see all the things that I can do as compared to those that have disabilities and has molded me into the person that I am today. My academics are just as strong as my ability to play hockey. I maintain a 4.0 unweighted GPA making high honor roll each quarter.
