Hello. My name is Hunter Kavanagh. I am a 2003, 6’1” 175lb Ice Hockey Goalie. I am a graduating senior, class of 2021 at St John the Baptist Diocesan High School. In the net I have been described by my coaches as very calm, quick, good under pressure, solid positioning, takes command of the net and communicates well with my defense.
I am currently ending my season with the 18U AA Long Island Arrows & preparing for my spring season with the 18U AA LI Enforcers. Before playing for the Arrows I was the goalie for Suffolk Selects AA, including both fall and spring teams for two years. Prior to that I have played 14U AAA Royals and I started High School Freshman hockey when I was in 8th grade for East Islip. I have since played High School Hockey as well as attended high school all four years at St John the Baptist Diocesan High School with a current GPA of 83.00. I have practiced with various goalie coaches such as, Chris Testa, Ron Petronella, Chris Howard, Jon DeCastro, Steve Mundinger and Brandon Perrone.
Being an Ice Hockey Goalie has taught me many important lessons that I have applied to everything I do in life. As a goalie, preparation is especially important, because you must always be ready for the next shot and stay focused no matter how tough situations can get. Hockey has also taught me to be extremely hard working and determined. The biggest way I can relate these qualities to my personal life experience is when coping and dealing with the fears and uncertainties when my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer while I was in 6th grade. Not only did it help me to become more resilient and adaptable but it was, and continues to be a huge outlet for stress. While I am in the net I have a strong sense of calmness that comes over me. Sometimes now during games and tournaments I look up in the stands and see the two most important people in my life. My role models, and parents and I dedicate every save I make to them. I really have no idea where I would be today without them and their support. They have truly had a huge impact on my life and I am extremely grateful for both of them.
My career plans are towards a career path in Physical Therapy because of my passion for health, athletics and people. I volunteer for many organizations like, Mondays at Racine Cancer Care, EJ Autism Foundation & Dr Patrick Dineen Peditatic Cancer Foundation. I love being a determined, hardworking individual that enjoys giving back to others, because it makes me feel great about myself.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
