Ever since I was 2 I wanted to play in the NHL, and since I was 5 I wanted to play in the NCAA. My family and I took a trip to Boston, where I saw U-Mass Lowell play BU and thought, that is what I want to do! The ability to play in the most competitive hockey league, while concurrently being able to earn an education is all I wanted.
I had the opportunity to go to Malta this past summer, the country where my dad side of the family is from. It really opened my eyes to my heritage, and to see my family’s history. Being able to see how they live, and where my family is from, truly made me proud to be Maltese. And for that, I put the Maltese cross on my helmet, to not only represent my family, but to also remind myself to never give up and stay determined.
I've been part of winning teams, and losing teams. I feel this has helped me grow as not only a goaltender, but as a person. I had to learn to win with pride, and lose with grace, and to not get too down on myself when we lost. I've been on teams where I was getting an average of 40 shots a game, and never once had I turned my back on my teammates, or the puck. I give my very best every time I step into my crease. I feel that being a good teammate is not limited to only being on the ice; its being a great teammate in the dressing room, in the classroom, and in my community.
My dad has a big impact, and a strong influence on my life. From school work, to hockey, to stressing how important family is, my dad has taught me everything. He has been doing renovations in our home, and being by his side I found an interest in construction. I learned a lot through the renovation process. How to lay tile, cut dry wall, and to measure twice and cut once. He taught me that putting thought behind something, and mapping it out before starting the task will make the job easier, and done right the first time. Spending time with him has taught me to be open minded and to be determined, that nothing worth having will come easy, but as long as I continue to work hard and put 110% into everything, I will reach my goals.
