My name is Jake Karant, I completed my freshman and sophomore years at St Anthony’s high school, however I have recently made the move to Ottawa to attend CIH Academy. I am really thinking about my future college plans as well. My parents and I chose Saint Anthony's High School in Huntington, NY after a lot of discussion and thought. We felt that the academic programs at Saint Anthony’s would serve me best in my pursuit of higher education, the programs there pushed me academically and I did well in my classes; the fact that they had an ice hockey team was the icing on the cake for me! Last year I began hearing from Prep teams and seriously decided to give some thought to making a change; one that would not only further my educational aspirations but that of hockey and future endeavors as well. My family and I visited CIH in January and I immediately felt at home, I hope to thrive in my new environment and make everyone proud of what I set out to accomplish both on and off the ice.
While I hope that a career in hockey is in my future, I am also realistic enough to know that this is merely a dream that I can strive to attain, though the reality is that my academics will likely take me much further in life. I played at the tier 1 AAA level for several seasons, and it was quite an exciting time! Playing in the annual Tournoi International de Hockey Pee-Wee de Québec for the NY Islanders organization was quite an experience also, and I really got a feel for the competition at my age level, (and boy there are some amazing hockey players out there). This season at CIH I have been fortunate enough to be placed on the U18 AAA White team, lead by head coach Andre Savage. Looking at the tremendous amount of amazing players that have come through this program, and more specifically this team, I know I have some big shoes to fill. I am excited and up for the challenge!
I hope that this information let's you know me a bit better, and I look forward to learning more about colleges that may be a good match for me as I look toward my future goals in life. Thank you for your time and consideration.
