Personal Statement

When I was 4 years old I started playing hockey in Alaska on a lake.  I was fearful of skates so I was the only kid wearing snow boots, shortly after that my parents decided it was time to invest in my first pair of skates.  My father then took me to the local rink in Soldotna to learn how to skate.  It was at that point that I fell in love with the sport and haven't looked back.

Playing hockey isn't just a sport it's full of life lessons, it becomes a lifestyle for both the parents as well as for the player.  Because I fell in love with this lifestyle as well as the sport I have learned many things such as dedication, discipline, life skills, leadership and the importance of maintaining good grades.  I also have learned how to accept my failures, losing games and disappointments.  As I have matured I have had the ability to incorporate these skills in various ways such as disciplining myself to be up early for practices or games, never giving up, being patient on the ice, accepting the fact that I didn't make a team that I wanted to make as well as becoming a leader while being captain of my team while pushing my teammates to their fullest potential.

Over the past 15 years I have not only learned about the sport of hockey but I have also learned about the importance of representing myself as a 'student athlete'.  Maintaining good grades becomes more of a challenge as I get older.  Because I want to play hockey I know that I must strive to maintain good grades at all times.  I'm looking for a college that fits my academic needs as well as a college that will help mold me into a better athlete both mentally and physically; this in turn will he help me become a better person in life all around.  You will find that I am different from most recruits; I strive for greatness, I can lead by example, I'm extremely humble and my love for hockey, it's lifestyle and the game is endless.  I'm prepared to both apply my athletic talent as well as work hard both in school and on the ice!  These attributes are what make me a pleasure to work with as well as a positive, motivated asset to a team.  This is what being a 'student athlete' is all about!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
