My goals are to earn a college degree and continue my hockey career. Hockey is a part of who I am; I’ve always been surrounded by the sport. Growing up with three older brothers who all played hockey, I was basically raised in a rink. I am eager to be a part of a successful college program. Firstly, I want to get an education that will allow me to be successful after college, and secondly I want to continue playing the game that I have loved since I first started skating.
My goal to play hockey in college began while I was attending New Trier High School (NTHS) in Winnetka, IL. While on the NTHS varsity hockey team sophomore year, I was selected to the league’s all-star team, and my team was runner up for a State Championship. I got a taste of success and thoroughly enjoyed our drive as a team. After my junior year at New Trier, I was recruited to play for a new U18 AAA team being formed in Wenatchee, WA. I played my senior year of high school for the Wenatchee Wolves. The Wolves played in the North Pacific Hockey League (“NPHL”) as the only U18 team competing in a Junior A league that year. I ended up playing another season for the Wolves and during that season, the Wolves competed in the NPHL and the North American Prospects Hockey League, a national U18 AAA league. While on the Wenatchee Wolves I experienced a different level of play and learned a lot more about the game.
I was taught the value of hard work. I thrived on working together as a team, and in my second season, our team won the NPHL Championship. Moving away from the comfort of my home and into somebody else’s home was very challenging but ultimately helped me mature as a person and as a player. Continuing my goal to explore a greater hockey experience, I decided to move from the West Coast to the East Coast and play for the Vermont Lumberjacks in the Eastern Hockey League (“EHL”) Premier League.
This past year has been a great experience for me, and playing in the EHL has helped me develop my skills as a defensive defenseman. I have learned the value of playing 100% each and every shift. I had to work hard to secure my higher level spot on the team. The league has also shown me a lot about college hockey and how much of a privilege it is to play in the NCAA. I have always been committed to education and have a GPA of 3.25/4.0 along with an ACT score of 31. With all the attention of this league pointing towards players becoming student athletes, I am eager to find a school that can help me work towards a degree in business while allowing me the honor to play the game that I love.
