My first time on the ice was in 2010 while my dad was stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota. We had a pond behind on our house and my older brother wanted to ice fish. I got bored quickly as I didn't like sitting still. My first adventure into ice hockey started at the City Rec Center. Since I was young, I wasn't on a real team but just being on the ice made me happy. We then moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming and didn't even consider hockey. In 6th grade, my buddy always talked about hockey. I wanted to try it again but my dad said no. We live 20 miles from town on a working cattle ranch and he said it was too much driving to/from town. My buddies dad offered to pick me up from school and take me to practice. I was a little shaky getting back on skates but tried hard to make up for lost time. I bought artificial tiles with my own money and a large net. My basement became where I spent all of my spare time. Not only did I participate on the local PeeWee team but I traveled to Colorado for Spring League twice a week and went to Jake Pence's Development Camp 3 days/week over the summer. Fast forward to my Bantam years. My first year, my team went 0-20 and my stats were so poor, I don't even know them. This season, I moved teams to play with the Laramie Outlaws. A whole new group of teammates, coaches and philosophies. I'm proud to say that our team went 20-0, the only Bantam team in Wyoming who can say that!
I have learned a great deal about myself playing the sport I love. I've used my mental skill to translate to the ice. I can "see" the puck and adjust my moves accordingly for positive results. I am seen by my teammates and coaches as unselfish, cooperative, committed and a leader.
I can't wait for the next steps in my career. I eagerly await the possibilities that will come along with my hard work, dedication and tenacity.
