The first time I picked up a lacrosse stick was a near disaster, but something about the sport made me fall in love with it. Two living room windows and quite a few fence boards were the price I had to pay, but it was all worth it. The feeling of controlling my shots, and always striving to be the best is forever my focus. The more I played the game the more I became infatuated with it. All I wanted to do was play the sport that I was devoted to. I knew it would change my life in a big way.
I played football, from age four until now. I was the workhorse of the team, always trying to make myself better, being a leader for my teammates, always pushing myself to the limits. In my eighth grade year, I went to Florida and won The AYF National Championship MVP, but even that didn’t compare to the passion I have for lacrosse.
Lacrosse is an escape for me, it is a place where I can unleash, and channel all of my energy. The endless support of my parents has been the key to success. They have helped my with everything, from driving hundreds of miles for Summer tournaments, or getting me to and from practices. They always taught me that hard work is the foundation that leads the way to reaching my highest goals. Even when things are tough on the field, I can always count on my dad yelling “Let’s go Matty” to help me find my focus. Nothing could more important to me than my family.
I am very lucky to have two families...the one I live with, and my lacrosse teammates . We grew up together, and have a strong brotherhood that we have formed over the years. No one plays for themselves, everybody plays for their brother next to them. Next year l will be playing for my high school as a freshman, and although I am young, I am looking forward to playing for the 4 years that I am there, and forging that brotherhood with us for years to come.
