My name is Gregrory Valentino and I have been playing sports ever since I can remember. As an energetic child, my parents recognized that a healthy use of my energy would be in sports. My natural athletic abilities were noticed and I began being recruited for other sports. I have played football, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, roller hockey, and most recently, wrestling.
In 1st grade, my baseball coach approached my mother to try to persuade me to play football. In 2nd grade, I started playing tackle football and haven’t stopped ever since then. In 5th grade, my football coach wanted me to try lacrosse but I was hesitant since I was so unfamiliar with the sport. Once spring started, I eventually went to one of the practices mid-seasons and I later found out that I had a natural talent. He asked me to come back for another practice and offered a starting spot on defense. In order to advance my stick skills, I have dedicated time to stick drills and off-season practice. As a result, I played at the Varsity level during my Freshman year at Ossining High School. Most recently, I tried wrestling my sophomore year and made the Varsity team at 138 lbs. No matter what the sport or score is, I lead my team through encouragement and having a positive attitude.
I am proud to be a scholar-athlete and have been in advanced math classes my entire life. At OHS, I am currently enrolled in several dual enrollment courses with the SUNY system. This year my course load includes SUNY Pre-Calc along with SUNY English 11 and SUNY US History/Gov’t. Another academic course I have taken to lead my interest in becoming a mechanical engineer includes the 2-year engineering course in my freshman and sophomore years. In addition, I am currently taking physics and am intending on taking SUNY Physics next year to prepare me for my future of being a Mechanical Engineer. This year I was recognized by the Superintendant as the Student of Distinction in Physics for my academic achievements this year.
My current goal is to play lacrosse in college while pursuing my dream to become a Mechanical Engineer. I am eager to be a member of a triumphant sports program by contributing my skills and collaborating with my teammates for a successful season.
