It has been an amazing experience to play in one of the most competitive Long Island high school lacrosse programs for the past 11 years and winning the 2019 County, Long Island and NYS Championship. I am grateful for the knowledge and challenges my positions, first as an attack-man and now as a goalie, have taught me. I learned how to assess my and my team’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as our opponents’ skills. I grew to understand and appreciate the importance of respect for coaches and teammates and the value of commitment to this sport.
It is in the goalie position that I discovered my strengths and contribute most to my team. I can evaluate plays on the field quickly and strategically. This allows me to be vocal with my teammates about our next move. Playing as a goalie helped me discover my leadership abilities on and off the field. I credit my growth in the position with giving me the confidence to organize my teammates and other students to participate in building as house for a single mom and her children through the Habitat For Humanity organization last summer.
I have no doubt that lacrosse has been a positive influence in my life and I am looking forward to continuing playing this sport along side my college studies.
