It is my goal to play lacrosse in college. Before lacrosse, I was only allowed to run track because of an ACL partial tear when I was in fourth grade. I liked track, but nothing compares to the speed and intensity of a lacrosse game. I was given the OK to do any sport I chose and lacrosse has been it for me since my all clear. I am a newer player to the sport, but with great coaches and hard work, I was given a spot on a top ranked team in my state my freshman year. I spent six weeks learning everything I could about the game and practiced every day until tryouts. I have been blessed with speed and natural athletic ability; with the focus of making the team, I spent most of my free time preparing for tryouts. Lacrosse, my teammates, and coaches have given me a focus and a set of goals I didn't have before.
I am currently undecided in my field of study, but I am leaning towards business marketing. I decided on this major by first figuring out what I don't want to do. I want my days to be different, I don't want to wear a suit and sit at a desk, I want to move and be needed in my work day. I like solving problems and helping people. Having a career in the marketing or sales field fits all my likes and dislikes.
After a summer of testing, in November of my junior year, I was diagnosed with ADD and processing delays. After my counselor explained the findings of the testing, I felt like my school career was finally making sense. I now have an IEP and educational support every day and it's making a difference in me starting and completing homework, in my studying and in my grades. Before my ADD was discovered, my grades were very bad and I often forgot to hand homework in. They are still not great, but they are getting better and school is making more sense to me now. I also take medication to help me focus and that has made a big difference too. Now that I understand how I learn and what I need, I am looking forward to college!
It would be a huge sense of accomplishment for me to pursue my college goals while also challenging myself playing lacrosse at the collegiate level.
