Hi, my name is Kai Liebowitz. I have been rowing with the Oakland Strokes for about a year and a half. I discovered rowing in my sophomore year of High School. Since then, I have fallen in love with the sport! Rowing pushes me every day to be the best that I can be. It gives me the tools that I need to fuel a strong work ethic and be successful later in life. Rowing in college is the next step in my journey to become an excellent oarsman and to make an important contribution to my school.
When I discovered rowing and the Oakland Strokes, I felt like I found “my people.” The coaches and my teammates approach life in the same manner as I do. They are hard-working and goal-oriented and yet they know how to have fun. On and off the water, my teammates have become my best friends. Rowing has shown me the benefits of teamwork which I will take into all areas of my life. Rowing has also given me leadership opportunities. I lead team core workout sessions and during Covid, I led team weight-lifting sessions online. I understand that my personal success is definitely intertwined with that of the team.
My goal is to row at the highest level possible while receiving an academically rich education which I plan to use in a medical career. Despite only being in the sport of rowing for a short time, the progress I have seen is exponential. I am confident that that progress will continue into my college years. I will work as hard as possible no matter where I row. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to my collegiate rowing program.
