I have been playing soccer ever since I was 3 years old. I instantly fell in love with the game because of the competitive aspect and also being able to be apart of a team that always encouraged me to do my best. I intend to play college soccer because it is a great opportunity for me to continue to play the sport that I love and it will allow me a once in a lifetime chance to play at such a high level of soccer.
I am technically sound and can move the ball with great composure with both feet. I can read the game well, so I know when to step and go forward or to hold back. I communicate what I see to my teammates around the field. Also, I am very coachable and can pick up on plays quickly. I am tenacious and I work extremely hard to always improve. I am a leader on and off the field. I lead by example, I always push my team to be their best, and by encouraging them but also helping them understand the game.
In school, I have a 4.33 GPA in my junior year for the first semester because I took AP biology and AP Art history. I also had the opportunity to take Afrocentric US History and Literature which taught me many things about learning through a new perspective and bias that opened my eyes to many things we see today. Next year, when I am a senior, I plan to take AP English literature. I am very diligent when it comes to school and I work hard to keep my grades up. At school I participate in a club, it is a voluntary work club called Interact, where I do community service with the organization to improve and support the community. I have devoted countless hours to this club in order to help the community by doing babysitting, festival events, food drives, and English as a second language tutoring. Also, I am part of LINK CREW, which is the freshman orientation program. I work with the incoming freshman and provide them bonding activities and tips for high school.
Outside of soccer and school, I enjoy traveling, hanging out with friends, and joining in camps. I was part of a confirmation class with my church. It is a 2-year class were we learn and grow with my religion to become a full member of the church. We do community service called "personal growth and outreach projects" that helps our environment and world by working with bigger organizations to help collect and donate. Not only does this help our community but it is also reaching out to help the people that are not as fortunate as us. In addition to just helping people, we also look for opportunities to help with the ecosystem by restoring the bay, and also we help animals by providing blankets for the shelters. Another activity I do during summers is that I work at camps. I do 2 camps; one teaching soccer to little kids and the other being a junior counselor at a nature camp. I have learned many of my leadership skills throughout my work at these camps. I enjoy the camps because you are able to bring enjoyment to kids’ faces and you are able to guide them along with the experiences of childhood. To me the camp leaders I had as a child allowed me to find a love for soccer and adventure. I want to be able to give the new generation the same experience that I had.
Another activity I have participated in was having the opportunity to travel to Paraguay in the fall of 2019 with a nonprofit organization called GIRLS SOCCER WORLDWIDE. While we were there we got to work with the youth of the community to help raise children out of poverty through sports and education. It was a life-changing opportunity that has made me so grateful for everything that I have in my life. I will never forget the way the children's eyes lit up when we provided them with backpacks full of clothes and school supplies. It was a little challenging using the little Spanish I had learned from school in Paraguay, but it was worth it because the children only cared that we were trying to talk to them.
I want to attend a college that will not only allow me to play soccer, but that will also allow me to pursue my major. I want to be pushed to be my best in the classroom and on the field. I want to make my parents proud because they have always been there to encourage me and to help me to be the person and player that I am today.
