It’s been my dream to become a doctor since elementary school. I intend to pursue a pre-medicine course of study in chemistry or biology, and am excited by the opportunity to explore and take part in classes and extracurriculars in college that will help me further this interest.
I hope to balance an intensive course of study with the challenge and fun of rowing with a team. I have been rowing since the start of middle school, and since then have improved and developed my skills in both sweeping and skulling. I am comfortable in most positions in a boat, but I am most practiced and familiar with starboard bow seat.
I carry a 3.8 out of a 4.0, recently scored in the 99th percentile on the PSAT, and am awaiting my scores for the SAT. To explore my curiosity about medicine, I've sought out every opportunity I can find. As a freshman, I volunteered on weekends for seven months on the orthopedics ward at Sibley Memorial Hospital. I have taken “medicine immersion” courses for high school students at Georgetown and Vanderbilt. And while in-person internships are hard to find during a pandemic, I have recently applied for an internship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for Summer 2021.
I am a candidate for Eagle Scout and should go for final review in the next two months. Despite the challenges that the pandemic has posed, I have led two service projects in the last nine months, including creating a storage facility for a nonprofit that serves the homeless in downtown DC, and conducting a landscape hardscaping project for a home for adults with developmental disabilities.
As a Co-Captain of my school’s award-winning robotics team, I have led the design and build of our competitive robots which have taken us to State for the last two years. Some of my interest in robotics and artificial intelligence is inspired by learning about the integration of innovations and technologies into modern medicine.
