When I began rowing at a competitive level in eighth grade I soon found out that rowing was a sport of leadership, teamwork, and self-competitiveness. In my first few seasons of rowing my team and I came in third at the Textile River Regatta; however, doing poorly at the same regatta the following year helped me to develop the most as a student-athlete. This regatta helped both myself and my teammates understand what we had to do to improve. It showed us what we had to change as a team in order to improve our times for the following race.
By doing these improvements, my teammates and I were able to place within the top ten in the following regattas that season. By not doing will in the Textile River Regatta, I developed a strong sense of team camaraderie and learned the value of commitment. By committing to a team that required so much of my time, it helped me to hone my time management skills in order to balance my athletic, academic, and social life. I am looking for a college team that would fit my academic needs and athletic abilities. I would bring to your team not only my rowing ability, but my dedication, team commitment, and leadership skills as well. Through volunteer coaching, I have developed a strong sense of what it takes to be a team leader and mentor towards other people who I work with.
