Personal Statement

I have been rowing since the summer of 7th grade and I enjoy pushing myself physically as well as the great camaraderie that comes from of being part of a team. I know my times could be a bit faster, but one thing I am is committed. I am a hard worker and I am not afraid to push myself whether it is physically or academically. I work hard on the water, in the classroom, and outside of school too. I have consistently worked two nights a week as a busboy since the summer before 10th grade while balancing rowing and a heavy load of honors and AP courses. By the time I graduate, I will have completed 17 AP courses - I have been an AP Scholar with Distinction for two years now. I am interested in being part of a rowing team in college where I can bring my all and continue with a sport I have always enjoyed. Finally - I would want coaches to know that my times are better on the water. I have rowed at Nationals in 2023 and 2024.

I have rowed with the Long Island rowing team starting in the 7th grade (2019) and every fall, spring, and most summers since. As a rower I participate in near daily workouts and I compete in regattas up and down the east coast.

AwardsJuly 2024 - AP Scholar with Distinction May 2024 - Harborfields High School Award for Outstanding Achievement in AP Calculus April 2024 - Regional Anato-Bee Competition - Philadelphia, PA This was a three day competition at Thomas Jefferson Medical School. We had computer exams as well as lab portions where we had the opportunity to learn from donors (cadavers). June - July 2024 - Represented Harborfields High at the American Legion Boys State Program - Nominated by my high school, I participate in this week-long program in upstate New York. This also entails presenting my experience to the Township of Huntington at a ceremony in August 2024. October 2023 - Inducted into the National Honor Society July 2023 - AP Scholar with Distinction
ActivitiesBusboy - Nicky’s of Centerport, Centerport, NY I have worked as a busboy two nights a week since the summer after 9th grade. I work from 4:00 pm until 9:30 or 10:30 pm. September 2022 - Present Chess Club - Harborfields High School, Greenlawn, NY June 2023 and August 2024 Columbia University Pre-College Program - New York, NY In the summer of 2023, I took a pre-college course, commuting to Columbia University for three weeks, five days a week for day-long classes.. The course was Business, Finance, and Economics. In the summer of 2024, I will be taking a week-long course at Columbia University. I intend to take Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. October 2023 - Present Tutor - Greenlawn, NY Volunteer tutor as needed for high school level Physics, Algebra, or Chemistry.
