I began rowing the summer before my freshman year. After rowing during the fall season, I decided to take a leap and switched to coxing full-time. I started by coxing both Novice girls and boys and I believe that my initial foundation as a rower has helped me tremendously when it comes to understanding the rowing stroke. I also know first-hand what calls work to push my rowers past their pre-conceived limits. The constant competition within my program's men's team (between the different lineups and the coxswains themselves) instantly got me hooked. When I joined the Varsity boys' team, I discovered a side of myself that I had not known existed. Over time, I have evolved into a leader. I have become confident in my steering, I have gained the trust of my crew, and I have realized the importance of communication. Coxing is a lot of work, and is typically an under-appreciated craft; however, each and every day, when I am out on the water with my crew, I fall in love with my sport all over again. Competition has become such an important aspect of my life and it is my goal to continue coxing in college.
