Soccer - Ever since I was 5 years old, I have been playing soccer for a team. I started at a recreational league called Murrieta Youth Soccer League (MYSL), and spent time play every position for 5 years after I started. I also was a part of the all-star team for the years I played with the team. During my 5th year on the all-star team, one of the coaches from the local club team came up to me after a practice and asked me to join their team. So, I agreed to join the team and they recruited me to the team for the end of their season. At the beginning of the next year, I went to the official tryouts for the team and they invited me to join their top team and I accepted. I spent time being the worst one on the team for the start of the season but as time went on, I was learning and growing at a exceptional rate. I quickly made my way onto the starting squad during pre-season. Since then, I have grown and learned from failures to be the player I am today. I have had the opportunity to learn from many coaches from the club to see my improvement from many different perspectives. For the past 7 years of my club experience, I have been know for my height and size for a center back. People have always been able to rely on me in the worst of time for the team because they knew that no matter what I would give me best effort. For example, during me 6th year of club, we had 18 players on the team, but for most games that were away from home, we could only expect 10 players to show up. I was a part of the 10. This was also one of the worst years we did losing 6-0, 8-0 in multiple games. People would start to give up and put in less effort but not me. I would still work hard because even though we are losing, it didn't mean that we could not learn from the mistakes and improve in the moment. I was also captain this year, so I had no time to sit around and complain, I just had to get the job done. I have been told from a few of my past coaches that they loved having me on the team because of the hard work I put in, no matter what, and that I was always so coachable. They were consistently able to see the improvement of play as soon as they told me what to fix. I think that the biggest thing that helped me become so focused was my mentality. I always knew that I was able to improve no matter how good I thought I was.
Academics - To be completely honest, I have not always been the best student. I have always been between and average and below average student but I am trying my hardest to improve this and become a good student. I know in student athlete, student comes first and that it has to be top priority. Even though I have not been the best student, it doesn't mean that I am not learning from my mistakes. I feel that I always learn best after I fail. I get to look back on what I messed up on and try to prevent it from reoccurring. Just because I don't exceed anyone in academics, it doesn't mean that I am not willing to learn.
