A lot of who I am has been developed through sports. From BMX I learned how to lose and get back up (literally and figuratively), and how to compete fiercely on the track and then socialize with those competitors (BMX is usually a 2 day event so there is lots of extra time). I value hard work and competition. Through basketball I learned to trust my teammates and experienced loyalty (a trait that's important to me). In soccer I learned how to take frustration and turn it into motivation. I learned the importance of practice (I can't stress that enough), leadership and humility. Despite what my 10 year old self would say, I don't know everything. It's important to be willing to learn; without that you can't move forward and my goal in college is to move forward. To grow, not only as a player, but to figure out who I am and all I can contribute to the world.
My family is the other big force in my life that has made me who I am. My father taught me work ethic, commitment, and to put in 110% in all that I do (on and off the pitch). My mom taught me to value education, to take the high road, and the importance of caring for others. My brother taught me patience, to listen and observe and showed me a new level of enthusiasm for life, music, and friendship.
