I started playing sports when I was in kindergarten. I played soccer, baseball, basketball, and I was on the swim team. I had a ton of early success in all of my sports. For example, I won the high point for my swim team, MVP for multiple baseball teams, made the A team / MVP, Captain, All League First Team, Won NCS Final for soccer, etc. As I grew older, I realized that natural talent only takes you so far. I knew I had to put in the work to keep having the success which thankfully came naturally to me and how I like to spend my time.
I mostly play defensive midfielder and sometimes attacking midfielder depending on the game/opponent. I view myself and have been told by every coach I have had that I am the hardest working player on the field at all times and I give it EVERYTHING that I’ve got. I love this game in an indescribable way, my passion and spirit to get better and help my team reach the next level is literally who I am.
How did I get this passion? How did I know that I wanted to give everything to this game? Well I have had to do some reflecting and soul searching because my natural gifts and talents came to a screeching halt when a few years ago I had to recover from some injuries I endured. The first one was when I broke my fibula/tibia playing in a soccer tournament. It was a very tough time and recovery. I returned with something to prove. I was determined to get back quickly and be even better than I was before. Then after growing about 4 inches and 20 pounds in a year and perhaps over training, I unexpectedly picked up a stress fracture and it required me to yet again take more time off. I was really at the point where I was starting to question if I was doing the right thing but what happened is that it made me want it MORE. During the rest period I had time to work on my mental game, analyze games, strategize on how I was going to rehab, learn about my body and all the exercises that made each area stronger, focus on nutrition and natural therapies, and strategize on how I was going to getter better than I was before.
I think these injuries have really impacted who I am now not only as a person, but also have changed the way I view soccer and sports in general. I never take a training or a chance to get better for granted and I am always looking to do more than what the other players are doing. I am glad to say that those experiences are well in my past, and with all those valuable lessons I am in full force and on another level. Lessons and difficulties that most people are just starting to experience now, I learned when I was much younger and I can guide others on how to get through tough injuries - including the kids that I privately train. This quarantine is not hard for me because I have had to train on my own or with my trainer many times before. I have learned to be ’self’ motivated it has really given me the time to greatly improve and also help the kids that I work with. I would say that I'm a step ahead when it comes to mental preparation and strategy than most players my age. For example, I have been doing a nutrition log for about 3 months and this has kept me in the healthiest and fittest shape possible, and contributed to all my other work that has brought me to my position now and I am I feel better then I have ever felt. I am playing on the top team in the club. With this team, I am surrounded with like minded college bound athletes which will help me progress even further. I'm excited to know that its just the beginning! Contact me for references and game schedule: [email protected], 415 916-5396
