Personal Statement

Dear Coaches,

My name is Mathew Young. I prefer to go by the Czech translation of my name Matous (Ma-Tosh) because my mother is from the Czech Republic.  I write this statement because I am looking to play tennis at the collegiate level and obtain an indepth education in the field of fitness. I am passionate about changing lives for the better and education poeple on the newest and greatest things their bodies are capable of. As of now, I am working around the fitness industry and studying Kinesiology at College of Marin. I hope to transfer coming Fall of 2020 and play collegiate tennis. I strive to be the best that I can be both on and off the court. Being part of a team is an experience that has showed me what the true meaning of being a tennis player is. Enduring every team member's struggles and hardships and victories and sucesses on and off the court inpsires me to help and bring people together to achieve one common tennis goal: To be the best selves that they and I can be! That is why I want to play college tennis.

  • The highlight of Tuesday’s three-hour, sun-drenched match was the No. 2 singles matchup of San Rafael (10-5) left-hander Wyatt Anderson and Drake’s power-serving Matous Young, who spent the hours leading up to the match at the doctor’s office after having an allergic reaction earlier in the day. Young took the first set 7-5 before dropping the second 6-2. Anderson, a sophomore, fired a flurry of winners just out of Young’s reach, claiming the third set — and match — 6-3 two full hours after the first serve. - Marin Independent Journal
