The beautiful game has been in my life since I was four, and there are countless difficulties I've face that could write down, as any athlete could. Many believe that the conflict in a story is the most important part, but I believe it's the response. Proffesional athlete around the world have fought against many obstacles to be where they are. People on the outside focus on the obstacle, but not on what the athlete did to overcome it, to surpass it.
During my freshman year, I had played four games. I had two goals and three assists. On the fifth game, I broke my collarbone and missed the rest of that season. To know you are going to be without something you love for a long time is painful, it can drive you insane. Being without soccer for months killed me. But after a visit to the doctors I knew that this is just a bump in the journey. I knew that to become great you must overcome the worst. I took the injury as a learning point and healed. When i was back to full health, I pushed knowing there were others in the world who having been pushing themselves while I was out. I ran the extra mile, did the extra rep, put more energy in to be better than I was before. I knew I just needed to want it more than the next guy.
The next season came and I was in a way grateful for the experience, as tough as it was. It showed me how difficult life ahead may get and how to prepare for it. So as I search for collegiate programs, I know how hard I need to work and when everything gets tough, I know how to push through. I want to be the best at everything I do, and if I'm not, I will work to get there no matter what it takes. I notice how hard collegiate athletes work, and everyday I try to find ways to work as much as they do in order to reach that level. Being a collegiate athlete has always been my aspiration, and I feel my integrity and work rate sets me apart from others trying to do the same.
