Personal Statement

To go an extra mile in school, students take AP classes in order to expand their horizons and impress colleges. During my 10th grade year of high school, I took the initiative to sign up for the course: AP World History. AP World History is a college course that covers years worth of global processes and historical aspects around the world. This class was very compelling during my 10th grade year because it was the only AP class I was taking. Little did I know that this class would have a beguiling impact throughout my high school years.

I was recommended for APWH because of my outstanding performance in World History: Middle Ages in 9th grade. Personally, I find history to be an exciting but challenging subject. The summer assignment for this class was enlightening and I had the pleasure of learning and retaining a snippet of World History. The work for the class was lengthy and I was assigned large quantities of classwork and homework everyday. We would have to read chapters in the world history book at home in order to prepare for the chapter quizzes every week. I would fail every test. It’s not the fact that I didn’t understand what I was reading in the chapters, it’s the I wasn’t studying and I wasn’t going to tutoring sessions for help. That was a struggle that I faced throughout primary and secondary schooling because of my pride.  When I took the AP exam, I found it to be fairly easy. The DBQ section of the test was the easiest for me. The hardest part of the test was the multiple choice section. I also did not study prior to the exam. When I received my Ap score 2 months after I had took the exam, I was devastated. I received a 2 on the AP exam. This score was a lesson learned from me because it made me realizes some factors I should change about myself.

During my 11th grade year, I took two more AP courses after improving myself from the previous year. I took AP Chemistry and AP US History. These classes that I took were also pleasurable because I love science and history is great and challenging. Throughout the year of taking these classes, I studied for both exams and I went to tutoring for AP chemistry. I did not want to fail like I did on my previous exam so I made sure I took extra precautions in order to achieve that. Taking AP courses was an excellent learning experience that I will treasure as I move forward to college.
