I am a Chinese bamboo tree.
A Chinese bamboo tree takes 5 years to grow, during 4 of those years, it grows underground, and appears as if nothing has happened to the naked eye. But you must water it everyday, care for it, and deal with the fact that results haven't been showing up for 4 years. I myself have walked this path. For years, I had never been selected to ODP, PDP, or even club teams, yet I kept at my sport despite constant doubts from others about my future. I've been labeled "too slow and too small" for a vast majority of my youth. The courage I developed, the persistence in the struggle is something that stays with you for life. And the way I overcame is a quality I will bring to your program.
As the clock striked 11:55 on my youth soccer career, I saw a breakthrough. Just like how in year 5 of the chinese bamboo tree, it shoots up to over 90 feet tall. I went to my final ODP sub regional camp and got selected to go to west region camp for the first time in my life. This is a great success compounded by the fact that only 50 or so total players in the whole west region of the USA are invited to this prestigious camp.
