My collegiate goals are to play for a very top college team and to obtain a great education. I don't just want to be part of the team, but I also want to make an impact on the field too. My three best attributes are leadership, communication on and off the field, and versatility.
With my leadership, I help my teammates on and off the field by answering their questions or by providing direction on what to do on the field. Communication is key in soccer. Having the experience of playing as a goalie for several years, I have always been able to talk throughout the whole game, and I continue to utilize that skill no matter what position I play. I progress on learning key points on how to communicate by getting involved in film sessions, both with my club soccer team and my varsity basketball team. Even though my main position is defensive midfielder, I can literally play anywhere I'm needed on the field. My freshman year, I have started every varsity game as a starting goal keeper. My sophomore year, our coach saw a potential in me to not only play as a goal keeper but also as a field player. During that year, I played in every position both defense and offense (starting every game).
Being a two-sport athlete has taught me how to be disciplined not only academically but also keep my body in top physical condition. I've played varsity basketball as a point guard since my freshman year which has forced me to learn to play against older and physically bigger opponents than me. Those challenges have made me a stronger player and helped me learn how to use my skills and abilities in different ways. As a point guard, it is necessary for me to see the entire court, distribute the ball, anticipate one to two moves ahead of the opponent, and requires me to be a defensive stopper against opposing guards, I am able to translate those same abilities to the soccer field which makes me a better and more complete player.
Academically I want to study in either a science (biology) or health science related field. Helping others is what I enjoy the most. The past two years, I've volunteered as a referee for a local Special Olympics basketball event. I'm also looking forward to assisting my younger sister's volleyball team as a team manager which I did last season and really had a ton of fun.
