As I continue through my junior year, I’ve been thinking about the last 18 months. I spent August 2023 in Essen, Germany. This was my third visit to Germany with the support of a German talent scout and the goal of joining a team to compete in the U17 Bundesliga (academy teams from the 3rd and 4th pro level can compete against the top Bundesliga clubs). While I had interest from a few clubs, my family also learned from a German lawyer that the clearance process would be very long (one year at best). While my dreams were shattered and dealing with disappointment is hard, I sat down with my family, and we discussed my goals and options. It was clear I couldn’t maintain my academic standards and my goals in soccer while traveling 2+ hours to my club team 3-4 times per week. During the Fall 2023, I enrolled in the University of Missouri online high school (NCAA accredited). This allowed me to maintain my GPA (3.75) while going to the gym in the morning and my club in the afternoon. I think the way coaches describe me in the US and abroad are the best examples of me as a person and athlete, including coachable, versatile, technical, athletic, a student of the game, and “a proper player.” As I begin the college process, I know that my experiences over the last 18 months have made me stronger and prepared me for top level college athletics and academics.
