Whilst playing soccer there's one obstacle that stood out to me the most that I had to overcome. This obstacle was being a freshman on a highly competitive, athletic, and skillful soccer team. I had to earn my stripes and compete against my teammates for playing time. There was a senior in my position that had been a part of the program for a few years and I had to outplay him for the spot. Proving myself in practice and converting in crucial games for the team earned myself a starting spot at center back that year. At the end of the season we have sports awards in front of the whole school. The Men's Varsity Soccer team gives out 3 awards for 3 players on the team. That night I won the one of the three awards which was the Coaches Award.
Something that I think contributed to me winning this and what separates me from others would be the amount of heart I have when I play. From myself I except nothing but perfection and I have a drive and thirst to win. When playing I'll sacrifice my body when going up for headers against bigger opponents or going in hard for tackles. One of the phrases my school team uses is "wear it." What it means is when you get knocked down by an opposing player or you block a rocket of a shot coming in with your body you stay tough and get back up or keep pushing through. This shows relentlessness and drive which beats an opponent down and is an essential part of my game.
