Soccer has been a big part of my life for a long time. I've played ever since I can remember. For most of my life though I've been a three sport athlete, but in recent years I dropped the other sports to focus on soccer. However, I never imagined myself doing that because I had a soccer season where a coach made me want to quit soccer. It was hard to make a connection with him, and he had favorites that played no matter what they did during the season. I didn't play much even though I felt like I had shown the skill and ability necessary for a starting spot.
I didn't let this set me back though. I tried to prove him wrong every time I was on the field. I trained on top of training everyday after school. It seemed like nothing was enough. It was a long and miserable season for me.
After that season my best friend who was on a top club team in New England encouraged me to try out. I decided to give it a second chance, and so I did. That season changed me.
I made so many connections with players and coaches. I learned more about soccer than ever before. My coach influenced me and made me want to become a better player and person. From this, I realized that soccer is who I am, and I don't know what I would do without it. I regained my passion and love for the game of soccer. Over that season, my team won multiple tournaments and came in second place in our region of the NPL.
More importantly though, I learned that hard work, the value of teamwork, commitment, and trust will eventually pay off. Now, I am only playing soccer year round, and I love playing the beautiful game. I hope I can take everything I've learned and my passion for this sport to the next level.
