Hi, My name is Jonah Helms (Class 2025). I love the game of soccer. My goal is to play soccer at the highest levels and work in and around the sport once my playing time is over. I want to study sports psychology and management in college. When my time as an athlete is done I would like to be a coach and work my way in to the staff of a professional team.
I left home, with the support of my parents, on my 16th birthday to live in Spain and play soccer in a residential academy in Huesca, Aragon, Spain. I start on the U18 side and have played 90min in every game. I play as a Left Wing Back or Inverted Fullback depending on our formation. This experience has taught me so much. I am responsible for completing my school assignments and maintaining my grades. It is similar to living in college and being a responsible adult. I manage my budget, my school work, laundry, etc. I have also learned to play and live with my teammates most of which are from different countries. Learning about their cultures has also been great.
In my American Soccer Club at NCFC I played L/R Wing and frequently played CAM. In Aug of 2023 I was identified and invited to join a Residential Academy in Spain, EF Huesca. In Huesca, I am the starting Left Wing Back. This is a role I am enjoying because of the versatility my coach requires. Our team plays an aggressive build from the back possession game with an extremely high press. My role is defense, however, I am expected to run the entire left side of the field and contribute to the attack and midfield play too where scored goals.
