What make a student athlete a student athlete is commitment. Commitment to be the best, Commitment to work hard, And commitment to achieve their goals. But most student athletes don't have that drive to become the best, the drive to want to be the best in their sport. For me I have that drive that 99% of my fellow athletes don't have. At a young age my father introduced me to soccer. Every mornings on the weekend he would coach my rec soccer team and than we both would watch our favorite soccer teams play on TV. My dad introduced me to soccer and showed me the art of the game. But sadly we could never afford to play club soccer even though I had many teams asking for me to come play for them. And for many year this continued, Me playing rec and my dad coaching me. But 10 days after my fourteenth birthday my dad passed away from a heart attack. I was devastated and confused I had lost my number one supporter. The man that introduced me to the game. I lost all drive for the sport after that. And after not making the High school team freshman year it flipped a switch in my head. I had been given the financial aid that I needed from my dads life support. I decided to train at one of the best clubs in my state weather they let me play on the team or not I was gonna get better. And the next year at tryouts I made the team on JV. I worked harder than anyone, I pushed harder than anyone. What set me apart from the others was my drive I would stay after practice and practice with the older teams to get better. No matter how much I was embarrassed I always got up and learnt from my mistakes. My team Won state Cup and than got to compete at the National Level in Denver Colorado. Sadly we had an early exit in the group stage finishing second. For my junior year of high school I came back and shocked everyone with my improvements. I went from playing JV to beating out everyone in front of me and becoming the varsity soccer starting goalkeeper all year. After my team lost in district finals I began club again where we competed at the Disney soccer showcase in December. A lot of people are amazed by my success and how far I have come. But I know I will continue to grow rapidly because soccer is where I feel closet to my Dad. Soccer is what wakes me up in the morning and what puts me to sleep at night. My family has not pushed me to do what I am doing or done any recruiting for me. Every decision, every choice I have made for my own and will continue to do. I am choosing to pursue my soccer dreams at whatever school can help me get to the next step in my career. I will always give soccer everything I have while also working hard in the class room. While my classmates are out partying you can either see my in the gym, On the pitch, Or in the classroom getting better. I have the drive and I have the mentality to play college soccer and my name is Tobias Forsythe.
Thank you,
