My name is Ethan McNeely, and I am currently a junior at Lincoln County High School in Hamlin, West Virginia. My goal is to be one of the first in my family to go to college and earn my degree while playing my favorite game. I play with my heart in every match and skirmish, and I hope to better myself and my team throughout the season through hard work and determination. I try to be logical in my decisions on the field, knowing that it takes one good or bad decision to change the course of a game. I'm persistent and unrelenting regardless of the score or situation, for staying strong and keeping my teammates in proper mental condition is critical to winning or coming back in a match.
The worst thing one can do in a match is give up, so it's my job as a captain and a friend to keep my teammates confident and mentally strong during any given situation. I've played in every position on the pitch, and I understand the struggles and challenges of each one. I can even admit to being extremely unsatisfied with my performance during or after a match or training, and if it weren't for my teammates, I would've lost all confidence and the will to keep moving. To me, team communication and relationships are just as important as skills and intelligence.
Despite my love for the game, I consider myself a student-athlete, meaning I prioritize my education over athletics. I have not chosen a major yet, but I am considering majoring in forensic science, or a field relating to sports science such as physiology or kinesiology.
Thank you for reading my statement,
Ethan
